What does the mission look like?

The church is one hundred and thirty-nine feet long, twenty-six feet wide, and it is made of adobe brick.  The roof and floor are made of colorful tiles. The bell tower is made of adobe brick and was shaped into cool designs and has three bells. on the very top there is a large cross, and it is almost but not exactly touching the church. The building was made with adobe faced with brick, and was cemented with lime made from seashells. The quadrangle was made surrounded with tile. The priest's quarters were not big. They were made like the rest of the rest of the buildings. The Indian's quarters were very far away from the mission. They probably had to walk while to breakfast! There were four separate buildings each about the size of the entire priest's quarters. There were twenty two archways that led into the church.  They were made with strong adobe. The fields, grounds, and gardens were fertile lands that supported 13,000 livestock including sheep and cows. it made enough food to give some to the Santa Barbara presidio. 450 of the people there were the workers. The reason there was so many and the padres were eager to gather them was because the land was so vast. The outbuildings were not as stable and strong, it was more like a long shack. The roof sometimes had leaks and the workers had been trained to work, so they fixed it themselves.

What materials were used to construct the mission? The materials used to construct the mission was adobe faced with brick, cemented with lime made from seashells, and on the inside the walls were made of colorful tile.

What was the main industry of the mission during the Spanish occupation? The main industry was teaching the Chumash Indians to learn Christianity. It was also used as a church.

What, if any, is the main industry of the mission today? The industry of the mission today is a church. And it is a tourist attraction, it has a gift shop, and is a small museum showing off the historical pieces of the old mission.

What was the relationship between the Priests and the Indians? The priests relationship to the Indians was that they were kind to them.

Is it possible to visit the mission today? Yes, they mission was never completely destroyed, though it did some have damage during the earthquake of 1812. Today it is a church and people visit it all the time.
