Part I - DATA COLLECTION

Select one of the 21 missions in California. You will locate and answer the following questions reporting on each aspect of that mission (If you wish, you may use note cards or binder paper instead of the chart below.) Check off each item as it is finished.

• Where is the mission located?

• What group of Indians was living in the area?

• When was the mission established? What order in the mission chain is it?

• Who was responsible for starting this mission?

• Has the mission moved from its original location?

• What does the mission look like? Use descriptive words. Address each of the following:Chapel, Bell wall or bell tower, Quadrangle, Priests’ quarters, Indians’ quarters, Archways, Fields, grounds, gardens, Outbuildings

• What materials were used to construct the mission?

• What was the main industry of the mission during the Spanish occupation?

• What, if any, is the main industry of the mission today?

• What was the relationship between the Priests and the Indians?

• Is it possible to visit the mission today?

• Find an image of the floor plan of your mission and include it in your final project.

Part II – CREATION OF A KEYNOTE OR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

After creation of the classroom wiki, you will type your information into the space provided fro your mission. Remember, this information will be shared with the entire worls, so it must be accurate and written in correct standard English. Then, you will convert each section of your notes into a single Keynote slide. Each slide will have a title and contain the information you gathered. Slides may include images, charts, graphs, or video clips.  Use your imagination to make the presentation informative and entertaining.

Part III - ORAL DELIVERY OF YOUR KEYNOTE OR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

On the day of your presentation, you will attach a laptop to the projector, log in, bring up your project file, and deliver a well-rehearsed PowerPoint presentation to the class.  You will be responsible for answering questions from your classmates regarding the information you presented.  You will be considered the “authority” on your mission.

Part IV – CREATION OF A MODEL OF YOUR MISSION (Optional)

This part of the project is completely optional.  Should you choose to do this part, your model must look like the mission in your report.  It can be constructed from any materials, but should be built to scale and the scale will need to be included in a legend on the model.  The model will be presented simultaneously with your PowerPoint presentation.  No class time will be given to the construction of this model.  All models should be created at home.
